Red Island Surf Trip for Intermediates

Join Dawn Patrol Bali on our 3 full day intermediate surf trip to Red Island, Java and explore some secret waves and intermediate surf spots at world famous G-Land when conditions permit.

Red Island, locally known as Pulau Merah is one of the most stunning and secluded East Java beaches situated in Banyuwangi on the Island of Java. This Java surf spot is set in a beautiful bay surrounded by mountains as a surfing backdrop. It offers amateurs and experts a resemblance to old, pre-tourist Bali with almost empty waves. Travelling from one island to another by ferry from Bali to Java, we reach our destination within 8 hours.

With a Dawn Patrol start, we start our Indo surf trip in beach break left and rights at Red-Island or other less known intermediate surf spots with our base-camp close by at Grajagan Bay. When conditions permit we can head out by traditional boat to G-land’s line-up for a day of intermediate surfing in some of the most consistent waves in the world. Depending on the kind of waves you are chasing, the surfing area of Red Island and G-land offer options for all styles of surf- adapting to guests surf ability and preference. Regular footers can also be greeted on Java Island by some surprises with seriously long right hand gems in a less know location when the winds are correct.

Our 3-day intermediate surf trip is back to basics; focused around surfing & Indonesian lifestyle. Our trip is aimed at relaxed, easy going surfers looking to have fun, progress their surfing, surf a lot and meet like minded people.

Day 1:
Setting out from BGS Bali Surf Shop in south Bali around 11pm to travel through the night, including ferry crossing to Java. Arriving at Red Island or at a less known spot around 5am for a Dawn Patrol sunrise session before heading to our base-camp in Red-Island. Here we unwind and enjoy surfing at your leisure.

Day 2
Full day surfing in Red Island or if the conditions are right: We head out to intermediate spots at G-Land by local fishing boat. At your own leisure you can enjoy 5+ hours of Java surf, resting on the boat and on local beaches for lunch & refreshments. G-Land offers an array of world class breaks and less known waves so we utilise the boat to explore the best locations, adapting to conditions and surfer ability.

Day 3
Full day of Red Island surf. After surfing, we enjoy dinner together, pack-up and drive through the night back to Bali arriving at BGS or your surf accommodation before 6am.
